dog personality profiler / writer

This is one of the most critical volunteer needs we have. If you click on the “Available Dogs” tab on Poodle Rescue of Houston’s website, you will notice that very few have comprehensive descriptions. Many have only basics such as small, white, male poodle. The rest of the text you see will probably be generic “boiler plate” that applies to just about every dog. Why is this such a critical volunteer position? Prospective adopters like to see details and personality traits. They want to read an appealing story that speaks to them and motivates them to make the drive to come meet a dog in person.

We accept new dogs into our adoption program almost every day. We need volunteers who are willing to spend about 30 minutes with a dog and then fill out a Dog Personality Profile Form based on the observations they’ve made and interactions they’ve had with the dog during that time.

We have a binder with easy to follow Profile Forms in it just waiting to be filled out. The profile form has “categories and traits” you can circle that apply to the dog in case you are stumped for words. However, we love it when volunteers write about their observations of the dog in their own words, or even better, from the dog’s point of view. Feel free to get as creative as you like. Our Petfinder administrator will use what you’ve observed and written to expand the profile of the dog. When the dog is adopted, you can take great pride in knowing that you played a crucial role in helping it find its forever home.
