ADOPTABLE DOGS - PETFINDER SITE
We have a high adoption turnover rate at Poodle Rescue of Houston. We like the high rate, because that means more dogs are going to forever homes with our great adopters. That high rate would require frequent modification of our website to replace adopted dogs and add new arrivals. It's more efficient to use the petfinder.com website to list our available dogs. You can access the PRH Petfinder Homepage by clicking the "button" or box at the top of this page or by clicking this link. This will allow you to view an updated list of our adoptable dogs . On our Petfinder Homepage you can also view important information about Poodle Rescue of Houston and our mission.

Sources

We are often asked how rescue dogs come into our adoption program. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and find forever homes for homeless or distressed poodles, poodle mixes and sometimes "honorary" poodles. They come to us from a number of sources.

Public Shelters: We do our best to monitor the poodle population and intake of regional public shelters. Whenever possible, we work with the staff and volunteers of these shelters to "pull" dogs from their populations and assume the above stated responsibilities of our mission. As we are a "no-kill" operation, this often results in the best possible outcome for the animals. We are proud to say we have assisted public shelters in five states.

Owner Surrenders: Sometimes, life changes dictate that an owner can no longer care for a beloved pet. We have a long-standing record of successfully finding carefully screened forever homes for poodles and poodle mixes. Because of that and our excellent facility, owners often feel that they can come to us with trust and confidence that we will find great new homes for their pets.

Stray Surrenders: Good Samaritan citizens often call us about helping with a lost or stray poodle they have temporarily cared for but cannot keep. Sometimes, citizens ask our assistance in capturing a lost or stray poodle, or bring one they have already caught to our facility. In many cases we have been pleased to joyfully reunite a lost dog with its owner. In all cases we diligently attempt to locate the owner of the stray before inducting it into our adoption program.

Breeder Surrenders: We have been asked for help by well-intentioned breeders overwhelmed by life circumstances or financial difficulties who could no longer care for their puppies and breed dogs. We have accepted their dogs into our adoption program.

"Puppy Mill" Closures: We have worked with law enforcement in three states and the Humane Society of the U. S. in accepting dogs into our adoption program due to the closure of inhumane and/or illegally operated "puppy mills."
